Head of Application Development & Support – 12-month contract - £550-600 per day.

The Head of Application Development & Support, reporting directly to the Head of IT, is responsible for leading a team of Application & IT Developers. The Application Development Manager is an active thought partner and an application visionary who shapes, in cooperation with the Head of IT and Business Areas the technology demand to satisfy business requirements.

The application development area is changing from an internally developed application set to a set of applications provided by various IT partners and internal teams, the Head of Application Development & Support will lead the design and creation of the support model to enable this change, evolving structure and processes for growth, and inspiring excellence.

As the Head of Application of Development & Support you will be responsible for leading and motivating the IT application development organisation, along with external partners, to enable systems that drive business growth, whilst ensuring business requirements for all applications are compliant with architectural principles.

From a management and leadership perspective you will create and set performance plans for the team aligned to the strategic plans. You will identify and resolve gaps in skills, processes, and resources alongside setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, mentoring, and monitoring progress of the team.

As the Head of Application Development & Support you will work with stakeholders and functional areas to develop and capture business requirements and developing guidelines. Your managerial duties will also include budget creation, resource augmentation, relationship building with vendors, external teams, and resource allocation.

To be successful in this role you will ideally have managed and lead development teams for an extended period of time, whilst inputting in to the wider strategic plan for an organisation.

Experience in as much of the below as possible will help you hit the ground running and to be a success within this role:

Expert in IT System Development Lifecycles, Agile Development Methodologies, Root Cause Analysis, IT process improvement, and delivers results on-time and on-budget
Experience of creating & implementing changing Service Model’s which migrate accountability from development to triage support of 3rd party applications
Experience in and ideas for influencing change and growth of development teams
Proven ability to create business requirements, business processes, and project plans
Experience in defining detailed business requirements to support strategic and/or tactical projects
Must be able to create business cases, operational models, and financial models
Must possess a broad range of development technology e.g Microsoft Stack, Opensource etc
Experience in software engineering and DevOps
Knowledge of cloud computing technology and systems (eg Office365)
Ideally possess some knowledge of mobile technology (IOS, Android, Windows Mobile)
Familiarity with data interface, data extract and data analysis functionalities
Adept in creating finished presentations to the Executive leadership, such as IT Project Initiation/Approval, Project Statuses, IT Application Strategy, Budgeting, and IT Roadmap
